Space-Available travel through Naval Support Activity Bahrain — the U.S. Navy-operated AMC air terminal in the Kingdom of Bahrain, with Patriot Express service to Norfolk and flights to Diego Garcia.
Naval Support Activity Bahrain, in the Kingdom of Bahrain, hosts the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet and NAVCENT. Its AMC air terminal — operated by U.S. Navy personnel and host-nation civilians under CTF-53 — runs around the clock, built around two routes: the Patriot Express home to Norfolk and flights to Diego Garcia.
For a Space-A traveler, Bahrain is a low-volume but workable board. The schedule is modest, but the aircraft are large and fill is low — flights tend to leave with most seats empty, so an eligible traveler who is ready to go has good odds on the routes Bahrain flies.
The move at Bahrain: the paperwork is the work. Space-A sign-up runs through the NAVCENT Space-A Coordinator, with documents due at least 15 working days ahead — so start early. If you're aiming for Diego Garcia, you also need confirmed lodging and an approved APACS clearance before you travel. Get those sorted, then watch the 72-hour schedule, which updates daily.

Editorial summary of the live numbers below.
- Bahrain is a low-volume terminal — it runs a modest schedule built around two routes: the Patriot Express to Norfolk and flights to Diego Garcia. Plan from the live 72-hour schedule, which the terminal updates daily.
- The aircraft are large and fill is low — flights tend to leave with most seats empty. On the routes Bahrain flies, an eligible traveler who is ready to go has good odds of getting a seat.
- The Patriot Express to Norfolk is the way home to the U.S. — the most reliable run on the board. Patriot Express travel has its own check-in process, and arrivals are handled through Bahrain International Airport rather than the base terminal.
- The other main run is to Diego Garcia, but travel there is tightly controlled — you must confirm lodging and hold an approved APACS clearance before you go. Don't plan on a Diego Garcia flight without that approval in hand.
- Cat VI reach is moderate — Category VI travelers reach the manifest on many, though not all, categorized flights. Paired with the low fill, Bahrain is a workable terminal for a lower-priority traveler who has the paperwork squared away.
- April 2026 saw an unusually high spike in flight volume across many AMC terminals — probably driven by real-world operations rather than typical cadence. Weight the other months more heavily when planning your trip.

Plan Your TripQuirks Worth Flagging
- Space-A sign-up at Bahrain runs through the NAVCENT Space-A Coordinator, not the terminal itself. Submit your required documents a minimum of 15 working days before your intended flight. Contact the coordinator at NAVCENTSPACEACOORDINATOR@us.navy.mil or DSN 318-439-8198 for the required-document list and authorization.
- Carry your Space-A documents with you — either a printed hard copy or a digital copy — to keep check-in at the counter smooth.
- Patriot Express arrivals into Bahrain now route through Bahrain International Airport for immigration, customs, and baggage claim — NSA 3 is no longer the arrival point. Sponsors meet inbound travelers at the International Airport arrivals area. NSA 3 remains the pet-quarantine area, and pet owners return there after airport processing to claim their pets.
- On Patriot Express commercial flights into Bahrain, do not wear a military uniform into the civilian airport, and do not carry weapons or weapon parts, ammunition, knives or multi-tools, law-enforcement restraints, high-powered laser pointers, uncleared communications or encryption gear, or unmanned systems — these items are prohibited and subject to confiscation or quarantine.
- Traveling to Diego Garcia: confirm lodging availability and obtain an approved APACS (Aircraft and Personnel Automated Clearance System) request before you travel. The Diego Garcia point of contact is NSFDGAdminofficer@fe.navy.mil.
- Baggage allowance is 2 checked bags per traveler (up to 70 lbs and 62 linear inches each), plus 1 carry-on bag and 1 personal item that fits under an aircraft seat. In-cabin pet carriers may not exceed 18" x 11" x 10.5".

FAQ
Travelers ask these about this terminal specifically.
I know flights are based on mission requirements. Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of making the flight?
Sign up early, and show up early to mark present. If only a few Space-A passengers have marked present shortly before roll call, terminal staff will tell mission planners that cargo can be added to the pallet positions that would have held seats. On certain aircraft, that means fewer Space-A seats than there are travelers waiting. The fix is to mark present as early as you can — don't wait until just before roll call.
Do I really need to bring a copy of my sign-up email?
Yes — always bring a hard copy of your sign-up email, and make sure it shows a date and time stamp. Terminal staff use that stamp to confirm your priority on the manifest at roll call.
Will they let me on the flight if my ID is expired?
No. Check every ID before you travel, and if any will expire during your trip, renew them now. Expired IDs (including your CAC, dependent ID, and passport) will keep you off the flight.
