Space-Available travel through the NSA Naples Air Terminal — the U.S. Navy-operated AMC terminal at Capodichino, Italy, headquarters of U.S. Sixth Fleet.

The NSA Naples Air Terminal sits at Capodichino, beside Naples International Airport in southern Italy. Naval Support Activity Naples is the headquarters for U.S. Naval Forces Europe, Naval Forces Africa, and the Sixth Fleet; its U.S. Navy-operated air terminal handles AMC passenger and cargo traffic.

For a Space-A traveler, read the flight count carefully. Naples runs as a courier and logistics operation — its flights are small missions that release only a few Space-A seats, if any. Very few Space-A travelers actually move through this terminal.

The move at Naples: set expectations low. This is not a reliable departure point — bring patience, a backup plan, and the means to cover lodging and commercial travel if seats don't appear. The high-frequency Sigonella shuttle almost never releases seats; the relatively better bets are the flights to Germany — Ramstein and Stuttgart — for onward travel across Europe and home.

What the data shows

At a Glance

Editorial summary of the live numbers below.

  • Read Naples's flight count with care. The terminal runs as a courier and logistics operation — its flights are small missions that release only a few Space-A seats, if any. Very few Space-A travelers actually move through this terminal.
  • Naples is not a reliable Space-A departure point. Plan for patience, keep a backup, and carry the means to cover lodging and commercial travel if no seat appears.
  • The high-frequency run is the courier shuttle to Sigonella, which almost never releases Space-A seats. Treat it as a route Naples flies, not a Space-A option.
  • The relatively better bets are the flights to Germany — Ramstein and Stuttgart — which connect to the main AMC gateway for onward travel across Europe and home. Even these carry only modest seat counts, so don't count on any single flight.
  • Competition is minimal — because so few seats exist, almost any traveler who is signed up and present reaches the manifest when a seat does open. The constraint here is seat supply, not category or competition.
  • April 2026 saw an unusually high spike in flight volume across many AMC terminals — probably driven by real-world operations rather than typical cadence. Weight the other months more heavily when planning your trip.

Quirks Worth Flagging

  • Patriot Express service at NSA Naples ended October 1, 2025. Flights are now organic AMC missions.
  • Check-in for military aircraft opens 2 hours 30 minutes before departure. Bring all checked baggage, carry-on items, pets, and documentation — passport, orders, pet paperwork — with you and on your person; check the 72-hour schedule for report and roll-call times.
  • Baggage allowance is 2 checked bags per traveler (up to 70 lbs and 62 linear inches each), plus 1 carry-on bag and 1 personal item that fits under an aircraft seat. Your name must be on the outside of each checked bag.
  • Batteries: no loose batteries — including those in their original packaging — are allowed in checked baggage. Loose batteries must travel in your carry-on; only batteries installed in devices may be checked.
  • The passenger counter accepts cash and credit or debit cards for any fees due — payment must be made in U.S. currency.

Where it goes

Common Destinations

Editorial notes to complement the live counts on the flight tables above.

  • Naples's most frequent run — a courier shuttle down to Sicily that almost never releases Space-A seats. Treat it as a route Naples flies, not as a Space-A option.
  • Stuttgart, Germany
One of Naples's more useful runs — a flight up to Germany, near the AMC gateway hubs, though it carries only modest seat counts.
  • A run to the main AMC gateway in Europe — the deepest onward schedule on the continent, and Naples's most useful Space-A connection toward home.
  • A courier run east to Crete — frequent enough on the schedule, but these flights rarely carry Space-A seats.
  • An occasional run west to the Navy's Mediterranean gateway in southern Spain — another courier-style mission rather than a reliable Space-A route.
  • An occasional hop north to Aviano in northeastern Italy — infrequent, and it releases few Space-A seats.

Questions we hear

FAQ

Travelers ask these about this terminal specifically.

I know flights are based on mission requirements. Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of making the flight?

Sign up early, and show up early to mark present. If only a few Space-A passengers have marked present shortly before roll call, terminal staff will tell mission planners that cargo can be added to the pallet positions that would have held seats. On certain aircraft, that means fewer Space-A seats than there are travelers waiting. The fix is to mark present as early as you can — don't wait until just before roll call.

Do I really need to bring a copy of my sign-up email?

Yes — always bring a hard copy of your sign-up email, and make sure it shows a date and time stamp. Terminal staff use that stamp to confirm your priority on the manifest at roll call.

Will they let me on the flight if my ID is expired?

No. Check every ID before you travel, and if any will expire during your trip, renew them now. Expired IDs (including your CAC, dependent ID, and passport) will keep you off the flight.
