Germany's best-kept Space-A secret — thousands of seats released home each month, almost nobody competing.
Spangdahlem Air Base sits in Germany's Eifel region, about an hour northwest of Ramstein and roughly two hours from Frankfurt International Airport. The 726th Air Mobility Squadron runs the passenger terminal in Bldg 670 on the AMC Campus, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Spangdahlem is one of the most available big-volume terminals in our data — about 30 to 45 outbound flights a month over our February–May 2026 window, with an average of 156 seats released per flight, but a fill rate of around 0.3%. Roughly 19 Space-A travelers per month boarded a Spangdahlem-outbound against more than 7,000 seats released. Cat VI reach is essentially perfect: 99% across categorized flights, and on the rare occasions Cat VI travelers competed, they boarded every time.
Coming from the U.S., Dover is the dominant feeder — 104 of Dover's 176 outbound flights (59%) come to Spangdahlem. BWI is the next-biggest inbound corridor (49 flights, with the highest fill of any feeder at 48%) and Andrews adds another 33. Going home, the network concentrates on JB McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst — 99 of Spangdahlem's 181 outbounds (55%) head there, with Charleston (34), Dover (16), and JB Lewis-McChord (10) rounding out the regulars.

Editorial summary of the live numbers below.
- Spangdahlem releases a huge number of seats and almost none get used — fill is effectively zero. The AMC page warns that "Space Available seats and missions are often limited," which is true for mission predictability (the 726 AMS forecasts only a few days out), but it isn't true for seat scarcity. If you can get to Spangdahlem and mark present, you are almost certainly on the flight.
- April 2026 ran well above the surrounding-month pace at Spangdahlem — driven by real-world operations rather than typical cadence. Weight the other months when planning your trip.
- Cat VI reach at Spangdahlem is essentially perfect — nearly every categorized flight reaches Cat VI, and competed boardings essentially always succeed. The combination of low fill and high Cat VI reach makes Spangdahlem one of the easiest terminals on the network to actually board, if you can get there.
- JB McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst owns the corridor home — over half of Spangdahlem's outbounds head to McGuire. Charleston is the second-biggest, with Dover, JB Lewis-McChord, and a thin tail to Wright-Patterson and Travis. If you're heading to the New Jersey / NYC region, Spangdahlem is your highest-availability path home.
- Coming from the U.S., Dover is the dominant inbound feeder — most of its outbound flights come to Spangdahlem, matching Dover's pattern to Ramstein. BWI is the next-largest feeder and fills the heaviest, and NS Norfolk runs a steady stream here — an unusual naval-hub corridor most travelers don't think about. Plan the inbound and outbound legs separately; the network is asymmetric.
- Day-of-week variation is mild at Spangdahlem — Wednesdays and Fridays lead slightly, with Mondays the lightest by count but offering the largest aircraft on average. Plan around mission availability rather than the calendar.
- April 2026 saw an unusually high spike in flight volume across many AMC terminals — probably driven by real-world operations rather than typical cadence. Weight the other months more heavily when planning your trip.

Plan Your TripQuirks Worth Flagging
- Space-A roll calls run at the AMC ticket counter 4 hours prior to scheduled departure. Plan to be in the terminal well ahead of that — see the 72-hour schedule on this page for exact times.
- Duty passengers must be in line no later than 4 hours prior to scheduled departure to allow time for passenger processing.
- The 726 AMS forecasts aircraft departures only 3 days in advance, and flights are not advertised outside of normal operating hours.
- Baggage: 2 bags per traveler, 70 lb max per bag, 62 linear inches max, plus 1 carry-on and 1 personal item (must fit under any aircraft seat).
- If the sponsor is traveling alone, the only documentation needed is leave paperwork, passports, and identification card.
- UK-bound travelers (including a UK layover) need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) — £16 per traveler. Apply at apply-for-an-eta.homeoffice.gov.uk.

Check-In
Check in at the 726th AMS Passenger Terminal in Bldg 670 on the AMC Campus, on the perimeter road about 3 miles from lodging and the main part of the base. Have leave paperwork, passports, and IDs ready when you arrive.
When to Arrive
The passenger terminal is about 3 miles from lodging and the main part of base, on the perimeter road — plan transport to and from the gate before you arrive. Community reports describe on-base shuttles and base-area rental cars filling up quickly during high-tempo periods tied to real-world operations; Bonn is a common fallback for rental-car pickup if the nearer offices are dry. Hours of operation are based on runway and flight-line activity, and the terminal is staffed 24 hours a day.

Community reports note rooms can be fully booked during high-tempo months tied to real-world operations, so have an off-base fallback identified before you arrive.

Common Destinations
Editorial notes to complement the live counts on the flight tables above.
- Spangdahlem's #1 outbound by a wide margin — 99 flights over 4 months (55% of all outbounds), averaging 204 seats released per flight at near-zero fill. Effectively the highway home to the New Jersey / NYC region; seats are almost always available.
- Second-biggest CONUS destination — 34 flights, ~148 seats per flight, fill near zero. A reliable Southeast option if you're heading toward South Carolina or driving onward.
- 16 flights from Spangdahlem to Dover over 4 months. Note Dover is also the heaviest inbound feeder (104 flights to Spangdahlem), so the corridor runs six times more flights one direction than the other.
- About 2-3 flights a month to Tacoma / Seattle. The only regular West-Coast direct from Spangdahlem in our data. Useful for travelers headed to the Pacific Northwest.
- Five flights over the 4-month window — about one a month. A Midwest option for travelers heading to Ohio.
- Five flights to Travis over the 4-month window — the West Coast cross-country option, ~74 seats per flight, near-zero fill. Long ride, but easy to board if one runs while you're there.

FAQ
Travelers ask these about this terminal specifically.
I know flights are based on mission requirements. Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of making the flight?
Sign up early, and show up early to mark present. If only a few Space-A passengers have marked present shortly before roll call, terminal staff will tell mission planners that cargo can be added to the pallet positions that would have held seats. On certain aircraft, that means fewer Space-A seats than there are travelers waiting. The fix is to mark present as early as you can — don't wait until just before roll call.
How do I travel from Spangdahlem to nearby airports?
The 52d Force Support Squadron runs the Saber Shuttle daily to Frankfurt International, Frankfurt Hahn, and Ramstein Air Base. The shuttle office is located behind Club Eifel in Bldg 500. Reservations are taken Mon–Fri 7:30 am – 3 pm at 06565-61-7684 (from Germany) / 011-49-6565-61-7684 (from U.S.) or 52fss.fsvt.sabershuttle@us.af.mil. Service runs seven days a week during daytime hours and is unavailable on Thanksgiving, December 24–25, and January 1. Current pricing is listed on the same page.
How do I get from the passenger terminal to the front gate or lodging?
The Spangdahlem passenger terminal sits on the perimeter road, about three miles from lodging and the main part of base. There's no walking route most travelers find practical, so plan ground transport before you arrive. The 52d FSS Saber Shuttle (see the airport-shuttle FAQ above) covers runs to Frankfurt and Ramstein but doesn't operate the on-base hop to the front gate. For local trips, community reports describe on-base shuttle availability tightening during high-tempo periods, with the only base-access cab company reportedly charging around $120 for a 10-15 minute ride to the nearest train station. If you're arriving on a Space-A flight, asking another passenger for a POV drop-off is a common community workaround when transport is scarce.
Do I really need to bring a copy of my sign-up email?
Yes — always bring a hard copy of your sign-up email, and make sure it shows a date and time stamp. Terminal staff use that stamp to confirm your priority on the manifest at roll call.
Will they let me on the flight if my ID is expired?
No. Check every ID before you travel, and if any will expire during your trip, renew them now. Expired IDs (including your CAC, dependent ID, and passport) will keep you off the flight.
