AMC Passenger Terminal — McConnell AFB, KansasU.S. Air Force photo

Space-Available travel from McConnell AFB, Kansas — the AMC passenger terminal in Wichita, with a small scheduled network reaching the UK, Hawaii, and both coasts.

McConnell Air Force Base, in Wichita, Kansas, is a KC-46 air-refueling base — the 22d Air Refueling Wing's home. Its Air Transportation Function passenger terminal, in Building 1220, is run by the 22d Logistics Readiness Squadron.

For a Space-A traveler, McConnell is a low-volume terminal with one useful feature: a small but defined route network. Its scheduled flights serve a fixed set of bases — RAF Mildenhall, MacDill, Hickam, Travis, Fairchild, and Elmendorf — so unlike a pure cargo terminal, you can plan around known routes.

The move at McConnell: watch the 72-hour schedule and sign up early. The terminal keeps weekday hours, so for a flight with a roll call after hours or on a weekend, you must notify the terminal of your intent to travel by 3 pm the prior duty day or the roll call won't be held.

What the data shows

At a Glance

Editorial summary of the live numbers below.

  • McConnell runs a small but defined network — its scheduled flights serve a fixed set of bases: RAF Mildenhall, MacDill, Hickam, Travis, Fairchild, and Elmendorf. Unlike a pure cargo terminal, you can plan around those known routes.
  • Volume is low — McConnell runs only a few flights — but they tend to be on mid-size aircraft. Check the 72-hour schedule and sign up early.
  • The terminal keeps weekday hours. For a flight with a roll call outside 7:30 am–4 pm or on a weekend, you must notify the terminal by 3 pm the prior duty day, or the roll call will not be held — so register your intent to travel early.
  • Demand at McConnell is light, so an eligible traveler who catches one of its scheduled flights generally has good odds of a seat. The constraint is how few flights run, not competition for them.
  • April 2026 saw an unusually high spike in flight volume across many AMC terminals — probably driven by real-world operations rather than typical cadence. Weight the other months more heavily when planning your trip.

Quirks Worth Flagging

  • The terminal keeps weekday hours, 7:30 am to 4 pm. For Space-A travel on a flight with a roll call after duty hours, or any time on a weekend or holiday, you must tell the terminal of your intent to travel no later than 3 pm the prior duty day — call (316) 759-4810. If no passengers register interest, the flight is pulled from advertisement and no roll call is held.
  • For Space-Required passengers, the counter opens 6 hours before departure; duty passengers must be in line no later than 3 hours 20 minutes before departure. The Space-A counter opens 3 hours before departure.
  • Bring your own food, or coordinate a flight meal with the Flight Kitchen at least 4 hours before takeoff — passenger service agents are not responsible for flight meals.
  • Baggage allowance is 2 checked bags per traveler (up to 70 lbs and 62 linear inches each), plus 1 carry-on bag and 1 personal item that fits under an aircraft seat.

Questions we hear

FAQ

Travelers ask these about this terminal specifically.

I know flights are based on mission requirements. Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of making the flight?

Sign up early, and show up early to mark present. If only a few Space-A passengers have marked present shortly before roll call, terminal staff will tell mission planners that cargo can be added to the pallet positions that would have held seats. On certain aircraft, that means fewer Space-A seats than there are travelers waiting. The fix is to mark present as early as you can — don't wait until just before roll call.

Do I really need to bring a copy of my sign-up email?

Yes — always bring a hard copy of your sign-up email, and make sure it shows a date and time stamp. Terminal staff use that stamp to confirm your priority on the manifest at roll call.

Will they let me on the flight if my ID is expired?

No. Check every ID before you travel, and if any will expire during your trip, renew them now. Expired IDs (including your CAC, dependent ID, and passport) will keep you off the flight.
